Florida Physics & Astronomy Scholars Program

Empowering Florida's Next Generation of Scientists

A statewide network where students do more than compete. They compare notes, challenge assumptions, build research together, and make room for the next great question.

Our story

From adjacent projects to a shared scientific culture.

Founded in 2026 by Zander Colangelo, FLPASP was built to transform the State Science Fair experience. Students often arrive with months of work behind them—yet only a few feet between projects can feel like miles between ideas.

FLPASP closes that distance. Instead of standing side by side purely as competitors, students can learn each other's methods, share early thinking, and work toward a collective purpose.

What the network makes possible

Serious science, without doing it alone.

Whether you are beginning to explore the cosmos or preparing advanced physics research, FLPASP gives your work a community, a rhythm, and a place to grow.

01

Peer exchange

Trade methods and honest feedback before presentation day—not only after judging ends.

02

Research teams

Connect across schools when a project needs a second discipline, skill set, or point of view.

How participation works

From first question to shared result.

There is no single path through research. This is the repeatable structure around it.

  1. 01

    Bring a real question

Start with the observation, problem, or possibility you cannot stop thinking about.

  2. 02

    Find your collaborators

Meet students across schools whose skills and perspectives strengthen the work.

  3. 03

    Build with feedback

Use workshops, peer review, and faculty guidance to move from idea to evidence.

  4. 04

    Share what you learn

Present the process honestly—results, revisions, and the next question alike.

Field note001
“The strongest science-fair community is not the one with fewer competitors. It is the one where every student leaves with better questions.”
